WSTC 6: Other Directions.
Call for Participants
Deadline for London participants extended: 4 May 2016.
The Walk Study Training Course is looking for walking enthusiasts, urban planners, community organizers, geographers, poets, artists, athletes, or other self-identified walkers to join us for WSTC6. Participants are invited to join the Walk Exchange onsite in London, or participate remotely from anywhere in the world. Remote participants are invited to apply individually, or as a group (please specify this in your application).
For some, the practice of walking represents a natural, everyday activity. Walking, however is shaped by physical, cultural, gender-based, environmental, and/or socio-economic factors. There is no universal walker—only walkers who bring a variety of experiences and backgrounds to the practice of walking.
For Walk Study Training Course 6, the Walk Exchange invited an international cohort to submit individual walks that explored new ways of thinking about walking. Selected contributors include: Gameshow, Catherine Grau, Dee Heddon and Sue Porter, Debbie Kent and Alisa Oleva, Idit Elia Nathan, Sitio-Seña, and Suran Song.
The geographic hub for WSTC 6 is London, where a participant group meets weekly. Walkers from other parts of the world are also invited to participate in the course as remote participants, completing walks independently while corresponding and engaging with the group in London. Each week participants from around the world will engage with the same readings and walking instructions, and share their experiences with the group.
The course is free, however, participants are asked to commit to all of the readings and walks. Walks will take place in May and June 2016, with London group walks scheduled from 1-3pm on six Saturdays (May 7, 14, and 21; June 4, 11th, 18th).
