In anticipation of Walk Exchange member Dillon de Give’s Long Walks in the Museum, we invite you to join us on Sunday, March 24th, for a free walk that explores museums and their relationship to the public and semi-public spaces that surround them. We will begin at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, whose outdoor plaza is currently undergoing a major renovation, and is also the subject of a class action lawsuit concerning its admission policy. We will end at Audubon Terrace in Washington Heights, home to the Hispanic Society of America. The Hispanic Society, often referred to as a ” hidden gem”, is currently in the news because one of its paintings (pictured above) is hitting the auction block, where it is estimated to bring in between £1,800,000-2,500,00. Through this walk along Museum Mile, through Harlem and up to Washington heights, we will question and consider our relationship to the city’s cultural institutions.

Time: 12p-4pm
Date: March 24, 2013
Meeting Location: At the base of the left side of the steps (looking at the Met from the street).
